Title: Writing a Newspaper Report
Grade Level: 6-8
Objectives: - Students will be able to identify the key elements of a newspaper report. - Students will be able to write a newspaper report using the 5 W’s and H. - Students will be able to edit and revise their newspaper report for clarity and accuracy.

Procedure:
Introduction (10 minutes) 1. Begin by asking students if they have ever read a newspaper report. Ask them to share what they remember about it. 2. Explain that a newspaper report is a type of writing that tells readers about an event or situation that has happened recently. 3. Show examples of newspaper reports and point out the key elements such as the headline, byline, lead, and body.
Body (40 minutes) 1. Explain the 5 W’s and H (who, what, when, where, why, and how) and how they are used in newspaper reports. 2. Provide students with a scenario such as a school event or a local news story. 3. Have students work in pairs to brainstorm the 5 W’s and H for their scenario. 4. Ask students to use their notes to write a newspaper report on their scenario. 5. Encourage students to use descriptive language and quotes from people involved in the event. 6. Allow time for students to edit and revise their reports for clarity and accuracy.
Conclusion (10 minutes) 1. Have students share their newspaper reports with the class. 2. Discuss the importance of accuracy and clarity in newspaper reports. 3. Use the rubric to grade the students’ reports and provide feedback.
