Lesson Plan: Literacy and Numeracy (Letter A and Number 1)

Grade: Nursery (Age 3-4)

Objective: To introduce the letter A and number 1 to children and develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

Materials Needed: - Whiteboard and markers - Flashcards of letter A and number 1 - Worksheets on letter A and number 1 - Alphabet and number charts - Storybook with letter A words - Playdough - Counting blocks - Videos on letter A and number 1

Introduction (Circle Time): - Greet the children and introduce the lesson topic. - Show the flashcards of letter A and number 1 and ask the children if they know what they are. - Introduce the alphabet and number charts and point out the letter A and number 1. - Sing the alphabet song and count from 1 to 10 together.

Activities: 1. Letter A Activity: - Show the children the letter A flashcard and ask them to repeat the sound “a”. - Use playdough to make the letter A and encourage the children to do the same. - Show a storybook with letter A words and read it aloud to the children. - Give each child a worksheet on letter A and ask them to trace the letter and color the pictures that start with the letter A.

1. Number 1 Activity: - Show the children the number 1 flashcard and ask them to count to 1. - Use counting blocks to make a tower of 1 and encourage the children to do the same. - Give each child a worksheet on number 1 and ask them to trace the number and color the pictures that have 1 item.

Phonics: - Use the video resource on letter A phonics to reinforce the sound of the letter A.

Assessment: - Ask each child to identify the letter A and number 1 on the alphabet and number charts. - Observe the children during the activities to assess their understanding of the letter A and number 1.

Differentiation: - For children who are struggling, provide extra support during the activities and use simpler worksheets. - For children who are advanced, provide more challenging worksheets and encourage them to make more complex structures with the playdough and counting blocks.

Plenary: - Review the letter A and number 1 with the children. - Sing the alphabet song and count from 1 to 10 together. - Ask the children to share something they learned about the letter A and number 1.
