Procedure:
-
Introduction (5 minutes) - Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what pronouns are. Write their responses on the chart paper. - Explain that pronouns are words we use to replace nouns in sentences to avoid repetition. - Introduce the concept of personal pronouns by explaining that they are pronouns that refer to people or things. - Write down the personal pronouns on the chart paper: I, you, he, she, it, we, they.
-
Personal Pronoun Flashcards (10 minutes) - Show the personal pronoun flashcards one by one and ask students to repeat after you. - Repeat this process a few times until students are familiar with the pronouns.
-
Guided Practice (15 minutes) - Write a simple sentence on the whiteboard, such as “John is a student.” - Ask a student to come up and replace the noun “John” with the appropriate personal pronoun. - Repeat this process with a few more sentences, allowing different students to participate.
-
Sentence Strips Activity (15 minutes) - Distribute sentence strips to each student. - Instruct students to write a sentence using a personal pronoun on their sentence strip. - After they finish writing, have them share their sentences with a partner. - Select a few students to share their sentences with the whole class.
-
Independent Practice (15 minutes) - Hand out worksheets (optional) or provide a whiteboard and markers for each student. - Instruct students to complete sentences by filling in the blanks with the correct personal pronoun. - Circulate the classroom to provide assistance and check for understanding.
-
Wrap-up and Review (5 minutes) - Review the personal pronouns by pointing to each one on the chart paper and having students say them aloud. - Ask students to share one sentence they wrote using a personal pronoun. - Summarize the lesson by emphasizing the importance of using personal pronouns to make our sentences clearer and avoid repetition.
Extension Activity (optional): - Divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a set of personal pronoun flashcards. - Instruct the groups to create a short skit or dialogue using the personal pronouns correctly. - Allow each group to perform their skit for the class, encouraging them to use the pronouns in context.
Assessment: - Observe students’ participation during guided practice and independent practice. - Review completed worksheets (if used) to assess understanding. - Monitor students’ ability to use personal pronouns correctly during the extension activity.
