Grade Level: Post Primary Religious Education Students
Objective: Students will be able to understand the importance of commitment to God through the stories of Abraham, Moses, and King David.
Materials: - Bibles - Handouts with the stories of Abraham, Moses, and King David - Whiteboard and markers
Introduction (10 minutes): - Begin by asking students what they think it means to be committed to something or someone. - Discuss the importance of commitment in our daily lives, such as in relationships, school, and sports. - Explain that in religious contexts, commitment to God is also important and can be seen through the stories of Abraham, Moses, and King David.
Body (40 minutes): - Divide students into small groups and give each group a handout with one of the stories of Abraham, Moses, or King David. - In their groups, students should read and discuss the story, focusing on the character’s commitment to God. - After 20 minutes, bring the groups back together and have each group share their story and their thoughts on the character’s commitment to God. - Use the whiteboard to write down key points and themes that arise from the discussion. - After all three stories have been discussed, lead a class discussion on the similarities and differences between the characters’ commitments to God. - Ask students to reflect on their own commitment to God and how they can strengthen it.
Conclusion (10 minutes): - Summarize the key points of the lesson, emphasizing the importance of commitment to God. - Encourage students to continue to reflect on their own commitment to God and to seek ways to strengthen it. - End with a prayer or reflection on the lesson.
Assessment: - Students will be assessed on their participation in the small group and class discussions. - Students can also be given a written reflection on their own commitment to God and how they can strengthen it.
