Introduction

Welcome everyone to today’s lesson on proper nouns. We are going to learn what proper nouns are, as well as practice some examples and identify them in different sentences. Thinking about proper nouns will help you become better readers and writers.

Lesson Outline

  2. Use examples to illustrate the difference between proper nouns and other nouns
  3. Group work: Create 3 of your own sentences that contain a proper noun
  4. Video activity: Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV5xoxA5EcU&feature=emb_logo, a cartoon introduction to proper nouns
  5. Group work: Identify proper nouns in text
  6. Worksheet activity: Complete the worksheet https://cdn2.teacherspayteachers.com/thumbitem/Proper-Nouns-Worksheet-Grammar-Worksheet-7968949-1551101828/original-7968949-2.jpg

Questioning

Throughout the lesson, ask questions to ensure understanding, such as: - What is a proper noun? - What are some examples of proper nouns? - How do you differentiate between a proper noun and a regular noun?

Assessment

Assess students understanding of the material by having them answer questions from the video activity, worksheet activity, and their group work activity.

Differentiation

To differentiate for different learning styles, provide visual learners with pictures of nouns and adjectives, hands-on practice with nouns and adjectives, and guided practice to identify proper nouns. Auditory learners may benefit from taking notes and repeating questions out loud.

Plenary

To wrap up the lesson, ask students to summarize what they’ve learned. Have them provide one example of a proper noun and explain how they can use this type of noun in their writing.
