Introduction:

Welcome to our lesson on proper nouns! A Proper Noun is the opposite of a common noun, it names a particular person, place, thing or idea. When we use these Proper Nouns in a sentence, we always capitalize them. (Show examples of Proper Nouns: Michael, London, Apple, Disney.).

Lesson Outline:

  1. Revise what a noun is.

  3. Discuss the difference between common and proper nouns.

  5. Discuss what other proper nouns they can think of as a whole class.

Questioning:

-What is a common noun? -What do Proper Nouns do differently to common nouns? -Can you think of any Proper Nouns? -What would capitalize in a sentence?

Assessment:

At the end of the lesson, ask students to write a sentence using a proper noun that they discussed in the lesson.

Differentiation:

Provide support for any students who are struggling to grasp the concept of proper nouns. Offer visual aids and additional explanations of proper nouns.

Plenary:

Review the concepts discussed in the lesson and ensure that students understand the difference between proper and common nouns. Summarise the main points of the lesson and then ask the students to give a clear definition of a proper noun.
