-
Differentiated Practice (10 minutes) - Divide the class into two groups—those who require extra support, and those who require more of a challenge. - Provide each group with different activities relating to proper nouns (worksheets, online games, etc).
Questioning
Throughout the lesson, use probing questions to assess the students’ knowledge and to lead them to the desired outcome.
For example:
- Can you give me an example of a proper noun?
- What is a common noun?
- What is a rule for how to write a proper noun?
Assessment
Assess each student’s understanding of the lesson by asking them to identify and write a few sentences containing proper nouns.
Differentiation
Differentiation is important in this lesson to ensure that all students can access the content and get the most out of the lesson. Therefore, activities should be planned that are appropriate for the different levels of student ability. This could include providing extra support or greater challenges depending on individual needs.
Plenary
To end the lesson, ask the class to provide examples of proper nouns and explain why they are special.
