Introduction: (5 minutes)

Explain to the students that proper nouns are nouns with special meaning and importance. Tell the students that they are named after a particular person, place, or thing, and typically begin with a capital letter.

Lesson Outline: (15 minutes)

Divide the students into small groups and pass out the worksheet given: Worksheet resource: https://k12reader.com/worksheet/proper-nouns/

Provide each group with the worksheet and allow each student to practice working on the given questions. Walk around the groups to ensure that the students understand the concepts and assist them if needed.

Circulate the room and ask each group to say one example of a proper noun they used in the worksheet. Make sure they know the difference between common and proper nouns.

Questioning: (5 minutes)

To review what the student have learned, ask them questions such as; 1. What is a proper noun? 2. What feature do all proper nouns share? 3. Name one example of a proper noun we discussed in the lesson.

Assessment: (5 minutes)

Administer an assessment where students have to fill in the blanks with proper nouns from the following jumbled sentences: 1. The capital of India is____. 2. My teacher’s name is Mrs._____. 3. ____is the tallest mountain in the world.

Differentiation: (5 minutes)

For students who find the task easy, provide worksheets with more challenging questions.

For those students who find the task challenging, review the concept together and provide support and assistance until they can understand the concept.

Plenary: (5 minutes)

Ask the students to explain the concept of proper nouns. Reinforce the information they learned by saying that proper nouns are nouns that are special and begin with a capital letter. Summarise the most important points and ask the students to repeat the information you have given.
