Introduction: Welcome to today’s lesson on proper nouns! Before we get started, let’s take a few minutes to review the word “nouns”. Does anyone here know what a noun is? (Pause for student to answer) A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. Today, we’re going to learn about proper nouns, which are nouns that name specific people, places, and things.

Lesson Outline:

Step One: Introduce students to proper nouns and explain what they are.

Step Two: Ask students to brainstorm a list of proper nouns with their classmates.

Step Three: Show a video or ask students to share examples of proper nouns.

Step Four: Have students complete a worksheet or activity to practice identifying and using proper nouns.

Step Five: Give students a quiz or other form of assessment to test their understanding of the lesson.

Questioning: Throughout the lesson, make sure to ask open-ended questions to the group that encourages discussion and allows the students to think more deeply about proper nouns. Here are a few examples:

What are proper nouns?

Can you think of a proper noun for a person?

What about a place?

Can you give an example of a proper noun for an animal?

Assessment: At the end of the lesson, give students a quiz to assess what they have learned about proper nouns. The quiz should include questions about identifying proper nouns and using them correctly in sentences.

Differentiation: If you have students who need additional help understanding the concept of proper nouns, provide them with extra support and additional resources. You might have them watch additional videos, complete additional worksheets, or read a book about proper nouns.

Plenary: As a plenary, ask students to summarize what they have learned about proper nouns in one sentence.
