Introduction: Today, we’re going to learn about a type of noun called proper nouns. A proper noun is a name or title of a person, place, organization or thing and it is always capitalized.
Lesson Outline: - Explain why proper nouns are always capitalized - Provide examples of proper nouns - Introduce worksheet- fill out the chart of proper nouns on the worksheet - Watch a video- A Proper Way to learn about Proper Nouns (see link below) -Learn when to use proper nouns- focus on person, place and thing - Differentiate between common nouns and proper nouns using examples
Questioning: - When do you need to capitalize a word? - How do you know when to use a proper noun? - Can you give me an example of a proper noun?
Assessment: Have students put proper nouns into sentence and then identify which words are proper nouns.
Differentiation: For students who need more help, have them work on the answers in pairs. For students who need a challenge, have them come up with their own list of proper nouns.
Plenary: Do a round up of the proper nouns that students have thought of throughout the lesson.
