Introduction (2 -3 minutes):

Hello everyone. Today we are going to learn about proper nouns. Before we begin, can anyone guess what a proper noun is?

In this lesson we’re going to look at what a proper noun is, and how to identify them. At the end, you’ll have a better understanding of why they’re important and how to use them correctly.

Questioning:

Throughout the lesson, focus questions should be posed to students to gauge their understanding.

Assessment:

At the end of the lesson, a quiz should be administered to assess student learning.

*What type of noun is “England”? *When do we use the capital letter for proper nouns? *Name one proper noun.

Differentiation:

Provide a range of materials to cater for different learning styles. Examples of activities to do this include: a fill-in-the-blank exercise, a sorting activity, and a quiz.

Plenary:

At the end of the lesson, students can be asked to sum up the key points they’ve learned.
