Lesson Plan: Teaching Letters M, N, O, and P

Objective: - To teach primary 3 children the names and sounds of letters M, N, O, and P. - To provide opportunities for students to practice saying the names and sounds of each letter. - To review letters A-L from previous weeks.

Materials: - Letter worksheets for M, N, O, and P - Alphabet song - Rhyme cards for M, N, O, and P - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers or chalk

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes): - Greet the students and ask them if they remember the letters they learned in previous weeks. - Review the letters A-L by writing them on the whiteboard or chart paper. - Have the students say the names, sounds, and examples of each letter.

  2. Introduce letters M, N, O, and P (10 minutes): - Write the letters M, N, O, and P on the whiteboard or chart paper. - Teach the names and sounds of each letter using examples:
    • M is for “monkey” /m/
    • N is for “nest” /n/
    • O is for “octopus” /o/
    • P is for “pig” /p/ - Have the students repeat the names and sounds of each letter chorally.
  3. Individual Practice (10 minutes): - Distribute letter worksheets for M, N, O, and P to each student. - Instruct the students to trace and write each letter on the worksheet. - Walk around the classroom to provide guidance and assistance as needed.

  4. Choral Practice (5 minutes): - Have the students say the name and sound of each letter aloud chorally. - Encourage them to say it with enthusiasm and clarity.

  5. Alphabet Song (5 minutes): - Play an alphabet song that includes the letters M, N, O, and P. - Sing along with the students and encourage them to follow along.

  6. Rhyme Activity (10 minutes): - Show the rhyme cards for M, N, O, and P. - Read each rhyme aloud, emphasizing the letter and its sound. - Have the students repeat each rhyme after you.

  7. Review (5 minutes): - Ask the students to recall the names, sounds, and examples of letters M, N, O, and P. - Write the letters on the whiteboard or chart paper and have the students say the names and sounds again.

  8. Conclusion (5 minutes): - Summarize what the students have learned about letters M, N, O, and P. - Encourage them to practice saying the names and sounds of these letters at home. - Thank the students for their participation and effort.
