Lesson Plan: Prepositions - In, On, Under

Grade: Primary 3 (ages 7-8)

Objective: - Students will be able to understand and correctly use the prepositions “in,” “on,” and “under” in sentences. - Students will be able to identify and describe the relationship between objects and their positions using the prepositions.

Materials: - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers - Flashcards or pictures of objects - Video resources (links provided below) - Worksheet resources (links provided below)

Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Greet the students and introduce the topic of prepositions. 2. Show a picture of a room and ask students to describe where objects are located using the prepositions “in,” “on,” and “under.” 3. Explain that prepositions are words that show the relationship between objects and their positions. 4. Write the prepositions “in,” “on,” and “under” on the board and explain their meanings. 5. Provide examples of sentences using each preposition and ask students to identify the preposition used in each sentence.

Teaching Strategies (15 minutes): 1. Use flashcards or pictures of objects to demonstrate the prepositions “in,” “on,” and “under.” 2. Place an object on the whiteboard or table and ask students to describe its position using the prepositions. 3. Repeat the activity with different objects, encouraging students to use complete sentences. 4. Use gestures and body movements to reinforce the meaning of each preposition. 5. Play a game of Simon Says, giving instructions using the prepositions “in,” “on,” and “under.”

Questioning (10 minutes): 1. Ask students to identify the preposition in a given sentence. 2. Provide sentences with missing prepositions and ask students to fill in the blanks. 3. Show pictures of objects in different positions and ask students to describe their locations using the appropriate preposition. 4. Encourage students to ask questions using the prepositions “in,” “on,” and “under.”

Assessment (10 minutes): 1. Distribute a worksheet (link provided below) with sentences containing missing prepositions. 2. Ask students to complete the sentences by choosing the correct preposition from a given list. 3. Review the completed worksheets to assess individual understanding.

Differentiation: 1. For students who need additional support, provide visual aids such as pictures or flashcards to help them identify the correct preposition. 2. Pair students with stronger language skills with those who need extra assistance to encourage peer learning and support. 3. Provide sentence starters or sentence frames for students who may struggle with forming complete sentences.

Plenary (5 minutes): 1. Recap the lesson by asking students to share one thing they learned about prepositions. 2. Review the prepositions “in,” “on,” and “under” and their meanings. 3. Encourage students to use the prepositions in sentences to describe the positions of objects around the classroom.
