Introduction Start the lesson by getting the students to brainstorm some types of words they already know (eg. verbs, adjectives, etc).

Explain that in this lesson, you will be discussing proper nouns and how they should be written and used in a sentence.

Lesson Outline - Explain that a proper noun is the name of a person, place, thing or idea. - Explain that proper nouns should always start with a capital letter (eg. Tom, Alexandria, Amazon, Christmas). - Give various examples of proper nouns and ask the students what they should start with. - Demonstrate how to use proper nouns in a sentence by putting one of the examples into a sentence (eg. Tom loves going to the beach). - Give the students some practice with a video game, Pronoun Pirates (https://www.turtlediary.com/game/proper-nouns-pirates.html) - Introduce the concept of proper nouns for countries, states and cities (eg. Victoria, Australia, France). - Check for understanding by asking the students to name some proper nouns and put them into a sentence.

Questioning - Ask the students to give examples of proper nouns (eg. Tom, Alexandria, Amazon, Christmas). - Ask the students what the first letter of a proper noun should be (capital letter). - Ask the students to name some countries, states or cities and put them into a sentence.

Assessment To assess if the students understand the concept of proper nouns, use a worksheet that asks the students to name some proper nouns and put them into a sentence (https://www.education.com/worksheet/article/proper-nouns/).

Differentiation For students who need extra help understanding the concept of proper nouns, provide additional worksheets or activities (eg. Draw and Write Proper Nouns Worksheet (https://www.havefunteaching.com/worksheets/language-worksheets/draw-and-write-proper-nouns-worksheet/)).

For more advanced students, ask them to come up with additional examples of proper nouns and put them into sentences.

Plenary Recap the lesson by asking for some volunteer students to explain the concept of proper nouns and provide some examples.

To further reinforce the lesson, assign the students a creative writing task to include some proper nouns in their sentences.
