Introduction: A proper noun is the specific name of a person, place, or thing. They must be capitalized and can be used to show ownership.

Lesson Outline: 1. Introduce the concept of proper nouns. 2. Have the children identify what a proper noun is. 3. Provide examples of proper nouns – Monday, New York, Mrs. Turner, etc. 4. Share the title case rules for capitalization of proper nouns. 5. Use a hands-on activity to practice identifying and writing proper nouns. 6. Students watch video clips to reinforce the concept. 7. Discuss how to show ownership with proper nouns.

Questioning: 1. What is a proper noun? 2. What are some examples of proper nouns? 3. How do we use them to show ownership?

Assessment: Assessment should be done through questioning after activity and video clips. Assessment may also be done in the form of a worksheet that students can complete at the end of the lesson.

Differentiation: Differentiation should take the form of additional activities for those students who need extra support or extensions for those students who need additional challenge.

Plenary: At the end of the lesson, ask the students to demonstrate the proper way to capitalize proper nouns and have them offer examples of proper nouns.
