Introduction: Begin the lesson by asking the children if they know what a noun is. Explain that a noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. Then, introduce the concept of proper nouns. Explain that proper nouns are specific names of people, places, or things and always begin with a capital letter.

Lesson Outline: 1. Define proper nouns and give examples. 2. Explain the difference between common and proper nouns. 3. Provide examples of proper nouns in sentences. 4. Have students identify proper nouns in sentences. 5. Provide a worksheet for students to practice identifying proper nouns. 6. Play a game where students take turns saying a proper noun and the class has to guess what it is.

Questioning: 1. What is a proper noun? 2. How do you know when a word is a proper noun? 3. Can you give an example of a proper noun? 4. What is the difference between a common noun and a proper noun?

Assessment: Provide a worksheet for students to identify proper nouns in sentences. Walk around the classroom and observe students as they complete the worksheet. Provide feedback and assistance as needed.

Differentiation: For students who need extra support, provide a list of proper nouns for them to reference during the lesson. For students who need a challenge, have them create their own sentences using proper nouns.

Plenary: Review the concept of proper nouns and ask students to share one proper noun they learned during the lesson. Play a quick game of “I Spy” where students take turns saying a proper noun and the class has to guess what it is.
