Introduction: Today we are going to learn about the everyday materials that we use in our lives. We will learn about natural and man-made materials and how we can recognise and describe their properties. (Show a PowerPoint presentation about everyday materials).

Lesson outline: 1. Introduce the topic of everyday materials. (10 min) 2. Explore the properties of different materials. (20 min) a. Show and discuss videos of examples of everyday materials (links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIkd2QbnzBw and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t85pg8tMBW0). b. Introduce the concept of natural and man-made materials. c. Ask students to identify the materials in the classroom and make a list of them. d. Discuss the respective properties of natural and man-made materials and give examples (e.g. paper, plastic). 3. Use everyday materials in practical tasks. (15 min) a. Give students an activity worksheet (link: http://file.allitebooks.com/20180328/Materials%20in%20everyday%20life.pdf) and ask them to complete it in pairs. b. Ask students to use the everyday materials in the classroom to create a model. 4. Conclusion (5 min)

Questioning: Throughout the lesson ask the students open-ended questions to encourage critical thinking and deeper understanding of the material. Examples include: - What are examples of natural materials? - What are examples of man-made materials? - Can you give examples of materials that have special properties? - What are the advantages and disadvantages of natural and man-made materials?

Assessment: Students’ understanding and comprehension of the material can be assessed informally during the lesson and formally through their completion of the activity worksheet.

Differentiation: The activity worksheet can be adapted and differentiated for different ability levels. Visual prompting and additional visual aids and resources can also be used to assist students in less able groups.

Plenary: At the end of the lesson, summarise what has been learnt and ask the students to reflect on their work, identify any misconceptions and explain the advantages and disadvantages of natural and man-made materials.
