Introduction:
Grammar is one of the most important parts of learning to speak and write correctly. Lesson Outline: • Introduction (5 min): Discuss why it is important to learn grammar, and provide an overview of the lesson objectives • Parts of Speech (15 min): Introduce the eight main parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, articles). Use illustrations and videos to help explain each part of speech (see below for resource links). • Types of Sentences (10 min): Introduce the four types of sentences (declarative, imperative, interrogative and exclamatory). Use videos, illustrations and worksheets to help explain each type of sentence (see below for resource links). • Activity (10 min): Students complete an activity worksheet to practice identifying and constructing different types of sentences (see below for resource links). • Conclusion (5 min): Review the main concepts covered in the lesson, and answer any remaining questions students may have. Questioning: • What is a noun? • What is an adjective? • What type of sentence is this? • How can you change a declarative sentence into an imperative sentence? Assessment: At the end of the lesson, assess the student’s understanding of the concepts by having them write their own sentences using the different parts of speech and types of sentences.
Differentiation: Accommodate for different learning needs by providing visuals and other visual aids for students who need extra help with understanding the concepts.
Plenary: At the end of the lesson, review the main ideas with the whole class. Ask questions to ensure that all students understand the concepts, and award rewards for those who got all of the questions correct.
