Introduction: Start the lesson by introducing introducin proper nouns to the class. Ask what words they know that they should capitalize in books and explain that these are proper nouns. Then, explain that these words are important to know as they name months, places, people and things.

Lesson Outline (approx. 45 minutes): • Warm Up Activity – Ask the students to write down five places in Malaysia (e.g. Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, etc.)

• Introduce the concept of proper nouns – Explain the different types of proper nouns (names of people, places, titles, months/days, schools, organizations, and special events). Show examples of each type.

• Guided Practice – Use examples from the warm-up activity and write down the same words on the board, emphasizing that these words should be capitalized.

• Video – Show a 5 minute educational video about Proper Nouns (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-k3q02OJZ0)

• Practice Activity – Have the students complete the worksheet, “What’s Your Proper Noun?”, which can be found on this website (https://www.teachervision.com/grammar/resource/8914.html)

• Check for Understanding - Ask the students to provide examples of proper nouns to check their understanding.

• Assessment – Have the student create a sentence using proper nouns from their warm-up activity.

• Differentiation - Have two different worksheets to ensure that all students can participate in the activity. For example, the more advanced students can complete a harder worksheet and the less advanced students can complete an easier worksheet.

Plenary: Ask the students to summarize what they have learned about proper nouns and write it on the board. Explain that proper nouns are important words to know as they give language structure, meaning, and understanding.
