Objective: To understand the concept of money and how it works

Materials: 20 coins with different denominations, worksheets, markers

Lesson Plan

  1. Introduction (5 minutes): Introduce the lesson by asking the children what they know about money. Ask them to provide examples of coins they know.

  2. Activity (15 minutes): Have the children divide into groups. Give them a collection of coins and ask them to sort the coins into categories by their denomination. Have them discuss the coins with each other and identify the differences between them.

  3. Discussion (10 minutes): Encourage the children to discuss what they have learned and ask questions. Explain the importance of money and why it is important to understand how it works.

  4. Assessment (5 minutes): Ask each group to write a short summary of their activity and answer the following questions:

  • What did you learn about money during the activity?
  • How did sorting the coins help you to understand money?
  1. Worksheets (15 minutes): Provide each group with worksheets which ask them to identify coins and calculate their value. Allow them to work together to complete the worksheets.

  2. Conclusion (5 minutes): Discuss what the children have learned about money during the lesson. Ask for any feedback on the lesson and provide positive reinforcement for their efforts.
