Lesson Title: God’s Creation
Introduction: Start the lesson by showing an introductory video to the topic and feeling of creation (link). Ask the children to respond to the video with their own thoughts and feelings.
Lesson Outline: -Remind the children of the creation story. (Ask the children why God chose to create the world and what his purpose was) -Discuss the wonders of creation God made: plants, animals and humans. Divide into two groups for discussion and then come back together for discussion. -Discuss what humans were given dominion over in the creation: air, water, earth and living things. Have the children list examples of each. -Discuss how humans can take good care of God’s creation: how can we take care of nature, animals, and people? -Review the creation story.
Questioning: -What is the purpose of the creation? -Why did God create the world? -What are the wonders of creation? -What did God give humans dominion over? -How can we take good care of God’s creation?
Assessment: Have the children draw or create a picture to depict the wonders of God’s creation.
Differentiation: For those more able, have them research different animals found in the Garden of Eden and write a short piece about what they are, what they look like, and any other interesting facts.
For those less able, have them look at pictures and examples of plants, animals and humans in nature and list the features of each.
Plenary: Review the lesson outline and discuss the importance of taking care of God’s creation. Ask the children to brainstorm one way they can care for the world God created and why this is important.
