Lesson Plan: Play and Learn with Alphabet Songs
Objective: To reinforce the new letters I-L and review letters A-H through interactive activities and songs.
Materials: - Alphabet song or video (e.g., “The Alphabet Song” by Super Simple Songs) - Images of objects starting with letters I-L (e.g., igloo, ice cream, jellyfish, jump rope, kite, lamb) - Rhyme or story highlighting letters I-L (e.g., “Iggy’s Ice Skating Adventure”)
Warm-up (5 minutes): 1. Greet the students and ask them to sit in a circle. 2. Sing the alphabet song together to review letters A-H. 3. Encourage the students to say the names and sounds of each letter as they sing.
Introduction (5 minutes): 1. Show the students the images of objects starting with letters I-L. 2. Ask the students if they can guess the letters that each object starts with. 3. Introduce the new letters I-L and explain their sounds.
Activity 1: Rhyme or Story (10 minutes): 1. Read a short rhyme or story that highlights the letters I-L. 2. Pause after each sentence and have the students say the letters I-L out loud. 3. Use the following example: “I for Iggy, ice skating with friends. J for Jo, jumping for joy. K for Kai, riding a kite. L for Lulu, loving her lamb.”
Activity 2: Alphabet Song (10 minutes): 1. Play an alphabet song or video that includes the new letters I-L. 2. Encourage the students to sing along and do actions or gestures for each letter. 3. Show the images of objects starting with letters I-L as the song plays for more interaction.
Review (5 minutes): 1. Ask the students to recall the new letters I-L and the objects associated with them. 2. Show the images again and have the students say the names of the objects. 3. Review the letters A-H from Week 1 by asking the students to say the names and sounds of each letter.
Conclusion (5 minutes): 1. Sing the alphabet song one more time, including all the letters from A to L. 2. Encourage the students to sing along and do the actions or gestures for each letter. 3. Congratulate the students on their progress and remind them to practice the letters at home.
Extension Activity: - Provide worksheets or coloring pages with images of objects starting with letters I-L for the students to complete at home. - Encourage the students to create their own rhymes or stories using the letters I-L and share them with the class in the next lesson.
