Lesson Plan: Prepositions - In, On, Under

Grade Level: Primary 3 (ages 7-8)

Subject: English Language

Duration: 45 minutes

Objectives: 1. Students will understand the concept of prepositions - in, on, under. 2. Students will be able to use prepositions correctly in sentences. 3. Students will demonstrate their understanding through various activities.

Introduction (5 minutes): 1. Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what prepositions are. Allow a few responses. 2. Explain that prepositions are words that show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence. 3. Introduce the prepositions - in, on, under. Write them on the board or chart paper. 4. Show picture cards or objects representing in, on, under to help students visualize the meaning of each preposition.

Lesson Outline: 1. Teach the Prepositions (10 minutes): a. Explain the meaning of each preposition: - In: inside or within something. - On: touching or covering the surface of something. - Under: beneath or below something. b. Provide examples of sentences using each preposition and write them on the board. c. Encourage students to come up with their own examples using the prepositions.

  1. Questioning (10 minutes): a. Show pictures or objects and ask students to identify the preposition that best describes the relationship between the objects. b. Ask questions like:
    • Where is the book? (on the table)
    • Where is the cat? (under the chair)
    • Where is the pencil? (in the pencil case) c. Allow students to take turns asking questions to their classmates.
  2. Assessment (10 minutes): a. Distribute the prepositions worksheet (link provided below) to each student. b. Instruct students to complete the sentences by choosing the correct preposition - in, on, or under. c. Monitor students’ progress and provide assistance if needed.

  3. Differentiation (5 minutes): a. For students who need additional support, provide extra examples and practice sentences. b. For students who grasp the concept quickly, challenge them to create their own sentences using the prepositions.

Plenary (5 minutes): 1. Recap the lesson by reviewing the prepositions - in, on, under. 2. Ask students to share one sentence they created using each preposition. 3. Summarize the importance of using prepositions correctly in sentences.
