Introduction To begin today’s lesson, I will read “The World of Nouns” by Ruth Heller. This book explains nouns in simple terms and helps students understand the concept of proper nouns. After reading the book, I will present a short video that explains proper nouns.
Lesson Outline - Discuss the definition of a noun - Introduce the term “proper noun” - Give examples of proper nouns - Discuss the differences between proper nouns and common nouns
Questioning - Ask the students to identify proper nouns in the book - Ask questions regarding proper nouns such as: - What is a proper noun? - What is an example of a proper noun? - How is a proper noun different from a common noun?
Assessment Students can demonstrate their mastery of the material by taking a short quiz on the differences between proper nouns and common nouns, or by completing the worksheet on Capitalizing Proper Nouns found on the Education.com website.
Differentiation - Visual learners: Provide flashcards with examples of proper and common nouns - Auditory learners: Discuss their examples of proper nouns aloud - kinesthetic learners: Have the students act out examples of proper nouns
Plenary To summarize the lesson, I will show the video “Types of Nouns-Proper Nouns”on YouTube. After watching the video, the students can discuss proper nouns in small groups.
