Introduction Today, we are going to be learning about the important category of words called Proper Nouns. Proper nouns are like our own names, they begin with capital letters and they all have unique meanings. After our lesson today, you will be adept at recognising and using proper nouns in all types of communication.
Lesson Outline • Introduction to proper nouns and mini-discussion around familiar nouns • Defining and distinguishing between proper and common nouns • Group activity – identifying which words are proper nouns • Writing proper nouns using capital letters and brainstorming proper nouns • Watching a fun video about proper nouns • Worksheets to further deepen understanding
Questioning Throughout the lesson, ask the following questions to probe student thinking and gain understanding: • What do you already know about proper nouns? • Can you give me a list of some common nouns? • Can you name some famous proper nouns? • How do we write proper nouns? • Can you use proper nouns in some sentences?

• Monitor student’s level of understanding throughout the lesson
Differentiation • Allow for students with special needs to work at their own pace with an individual worksheet • Provide extra guidance to students who may be struggling more than their peers
