Introduction:
Hello everyone! Today we’ll be talking about proper nouns. I’m sure you all know what a regular noun is- it’s a word for a name or object, like tree, truck, or Katherine. But what’s a proper noun? Let’s find out.
Lesson Outline:
Step 1: We’ll start off by watching a video and having a class discussion about what a proper noun is. The video can be found at this link:

Step 2: Next, I’ll have the students do a fun worksheet to practice identifying proper nouns. The worksheet can be found here:

Step 3: Afterwards, I’ll have students pair off and work together to complete an online game to find and identify proper nouns:

Questioning:
Throughout the lesson, I will ask the students open-ended questions to check for understanding. This might include questions like:
• What’s the difference between a regular noun and a proper noun? • Can you give me an example of a proper noun? • Can you identify which words in this sentence are proper nouns?
Assessment:
To assess the students’ understanding, I will have them complete a written assessment after the lesson is over. This assessment will measure their knowledge of identifying and using proper nouns.
Differentiation:
To address the needs of all students, I will provide different versions of the worksheet and game activities. I will have a higher level worksheet and game for those who need more of a challenge, as well as a lower level version for those who need more support.
Plenary:
At the end of the class, we’ll go over the key points about proper nouns and discuss what the students have learned. I’ll also make sure to give them some suggestions for how to remember the differences between regular nouns and proper nouns.
