Introduction:

Welcome the students to the lesson. Explain that today we will be learning about proper nouns. Provide some examples of proper nouns, such as people’s names, cities, and countries. Ask the students to provide other examples that they can think of.

Lesson Outline:

Introduce the concept of proper nouns and review the student’s examples: A proper noun is the name given to something specific. It is usually the name of a person (e.g. John), a place (e.g. Paris), or a thing (e.g. Coca-Cola). All proper nouns begin with a capital letter.

Explain the difference between common and proper nouns using an example: A common noun is the name given to a category of items, such as city, hotel, or apple. Common nouns are not capitalized.

Demonstration and practice: Use examples to demonstrate the difference between common and proper nouns. Explain the difference and encourage students to provide more examples of their own. Give students practice in identifying proper nouns.

Assessment: At the end of the lesson, have the students complete a quiz or worksheet to assess their understanding of proper nouns.

Differentiation: Create a differentiated lesson. Provide a variety of questions and activities that all students can access and participate in, but that are tailored to their learning needs.

Plenary: Have the students review their work and discuss the concept of proper nouns in small groups. Ask the students to share what they learned in the lesson and provide examples of proper nouns that they can think of.
