Objective: To be able to identify and use a proper noun
Introduction (5 minutes): Today we are going to be learning about proper nouns. A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place, thing or idea. Videos are a great resource to help explain what a proper noun is and how to identify them. A good place to start is with this video:

Lesson Outline (15 minutes):
- Read through the definition of proper nouns with class
- Ask the children to think of examples of proper nouns from their own life
- Divide the children into groups of 4 and provide each group with some worksheets https://www.teachervision.com/grammar/proper-nouns-worksheet
- Give each group some time to go through the worksheets and encourage them to talk through their answers with one another
Questioning (5 minutes):
Discuss the answers to the worksheets as a class. Ask questions such as “Which nouns are proper nouns?” and “Can you think of any examples in our classroom?”
Assessment (5 minutes):
Ask the children to write down any examples of proper nouns that they have identified.
Differentiation (5 minutes):
For children who need extra help, provide additional resources tailored to the individual’s learning needs.
Plenary (5 minutes):
Remind the children of the definition of a proper noun and ask them to summarise what they’ve learned today. Encourage the children who need extra help to continue researching and furthering their understanding of proper nouns.
