Introduction: (5 minutes) Welcome the class and introduce the topic for the day: Proper Nouns. Explain to them that proper nouns are a special kind of noun that refer to specific people, places, or things. Ask them to give examples of proper nouns, providing further clarification if needed.

Lesson Outline: (20 minutes) Have the students watch the following Brainpop Jr. video (https://jr.brainpop.com/language/grammarandpunctuation/propernouns/):

This video introduces the idea of proper nouns and explains tools they can use to determine if something is a proper noun. Point out when to capitalize letters and when not to. Once the video has finished, have the students work in pairs on the following worksheet (http://www.kidskonnect.com/language/proper-nouns-worksheet/):

This is an interactive and comprehensive worksheet for kids to fill out to reinforce proper nouns concepts.

Questioning: (5 minutes) Have the students answer questions about the video content as well as questions about the worksheet, such as:

-What is a proper noun?

-What are some examples of proper nouns?

-When should a proper noun be capitalized?

Assessment: (5 minutes) Give the students a quiz to assess their understanding of proper nouns. It will include questions on how to correctly identify a proper noun and how to correctly capitalize it.

Differentiation: Provide various resources to allow various learning styles to be catered to. Have some students watch the video while others participate in an interactive game. Or, provide different worksheets or activities to the students who are having difficulty with the main worksheet.

Plenary: (5 minutes) Have a discussion on proper nouns and how they differentiate between regular nouns. Ask the students to come up with some more examples of proper nouns, pausing for further explanation if needed. Give the students a chance to share their worksheet results from the activity. Reinforce the idea that proper nouns are used to talk about specific people, places, and things.

End the lesson by giving the students a review assignment to continue practicing to proper nouns concepts.
