Time: 45 – 60 minutes

Objective:

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to identify and summarise key points of Chapter 2 of “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark”.

Materials Needed:

-Copies of “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark” book -Pencils and paper

Activities:

  1. Introduction (10 minutes): -Introduce the book to the class and discuss the topic of fear. -Discuss a few examples of common fears.

  2. Identifying Plot Points (15 minutes): -Assign each group a chapter in the book and ask them to use their pencils and paper to record points of the plot. -When they are done, each group can discuss the plot summaries they created.

  3. Summarising Chapter 2 (15 minutes): -Ask the class to summarise the main points of Chapter 2. -Explain that summaries should be concise but should include all key points without leaving out any crucial information.

  4. Writing a Group Summary (15 minutes): -Divide the class into groups and assign each group a section of Chapter 2 to summarise.
    -Have the groups write their summaries on the board and then have the class discuss the different summaries.

  5. Application (5 minutes): -Have the class work together to create a mini-comic strip based on Chapter 2 of the book. -Allow the pupils to draw their comic strip on a piece of paper and discuss the stories they created.

Conclusion (5 minutes): -Review the lesson and discuss what the pupils have learned. -Encourage students to share their comic strips. -Recap the main points of Chapter 2 and how to effectively summarise.
