Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the main idea of a given text and provide supporting details.

Introduction (5 minutes): 1. Greet the students and briefly recap the previous lesson on main idea. 2. Explain that today, we will be focusing on identifying the main idea and supporting details in a text. 3. Show a short video clip on finding the main idea to engage students and introduce the concept. (Video resource: “Finding the Main Idea” by Study.com)

Lesson Outline (10 minutes): 1. Write the definition of main idea on the board: “The main idea is the most important point or message that the author wants to convey in a text.” 2. Discuss the importance of identifying the main idea in a text and how it helps us understand the overall meaning. 3. Explain that supporting details are pieces of information that help explain or prove the main idea. 4. Show another video clip on main idea and supporting details to reinforce the concept. (Video resource: “Main Idea and Supporting Details” by KidsEduc – Kids Educational Games)

Questioning (5 minutes): 1. Ask students to share their understanding of the main idea and supporting details. 2. Pose questions to the class to check for comprehension: - What is the main idea of a text? - How do supporting details help us understand the main idea? - Can you give an example of a main idea and its supporting details?

Assessment (5 minutes): 1. Distribute the “Main Idea and Supporting Details Worksheet” to each student. 2. Instruct students to read the passage and identify the main idea and supporting details. 3. Monitor students’ progress and provide assistance if needed.

Differentiation (5 minutes): 1. For students who need additional support, provide a simplified version of the worksheet with fewer answer choices. 2. For students who need a challenge, provide an additional worksheet with more complex texts and multiple main ideas.

Plenary (5 minutes): 1. Review the main points of the lesson by asking students to share their answers from the worksheet. 2.
