Lesson Plan: Sentence Pattern - “What does he/she do in his/her free time?”

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the sentence pattern “He/She _____ in his/her free time” to describe various activities.

Materials: - Flashcards with pictures of different activities (e.g., reading, playing soccer, painting, dancing, etc.) - Sentence pattern chart - Whiteboard and markers - Game materials (optional)

Warm-up (5 minutes): 1. Greet the students and ask them about their favorite activities in their free time. 2. Write a few examples on the board, such as “I like to read books” or “I enjoy playing soccer.” 3. Discuss the sentence structure and emphasize the use of “in his/her free time.”

Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Show the flashcards with pictures of different activities. 2. Ask the students to identify the activities and elicit the corresponding verbs (e.g., reading, playing, painting, dancing, etc.). 3. Introduce the sentence pattern “What does he/she do in his/her free time?” and write it on the board. 4. Explain that we can use this sentence pattern to talk about what someone does for fun or in their spare time.

Practice (15 minutes): 1. Divide the class into pairs or small groups. 2. Distribute the flashcards among the students. 3. In their groups, students take turns asking and answering questions using the sentence pattern. - Student A: “What does he/she do in his/her free time?” - Student B: “He/She _____ in his/her free time.” 4. Encourage students to use different activities from the flashcards and create their own sentences. 5. Monitor the groups and provide assistance as needed.

Game (15 minutes): 1. Play a game of “Guess the Activity.” 2. Divide the class into two teams. 3. Show a flashcard to one student from each team without revealing it to the rest of the class. 4. The two students must act out the activity on the flashcard, and their teams have to guess what it is. 5. The first team to guess correctly earns a point. 6. Repeat the game with different students and flashcards. 7. Encourage students to use the sentence pattern when describing the activities.

Consolidation (5 minutes): 1. Review the sentence pattern and ask students to share some of the activities they discussed during the practice and game. 2. Write a few sentences on the board using the sentence pattern and ask students to identify the missing activity. 3. Provide feedback and praise the students for their efforts.

Conclusion: 1. Summarize the lesson by reminding students of the sentence pattern “He/She _____ in his/her free time.” 2. Encourage students to use this sentence pattern in their conversations to describe activities. 3. Thank the students for their participation and effort.
