Lesson Plan: World Religions

Topic: World Religions

Desired Outcome: As I play and learn, I am developing my understanding of what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring for, sharing and cooperating with others.

Focus: Obeying parents

Level: Early Level

Introduction:

  • Begin the lesson by asking the children if they know what religion is.
  • Explain that religion is a set of beliefs and practices that people follow to help them understand the world around them.
  • Ask the children if they know any religions and write them on the board.

Activity 1: Sorting Religions

  • Provide the children with pictures of different religious symbols and ask them to sort them into groups.
  • Encourage the children to discuss why they have sorted the symbols in a particular way.
  • Discuss the similarities and differences between the religions.

Activity 2: Story Time

  • Read a story about a child who learns the importance of obeying their parents.
  • Discuss the story with the children and ask them to share their thoughts and feelings about the story.
  • Ask the children if they have ever disobeyed their parents and what happened as a result.

Activity 3: Role Play

  • Divide the children into pairs and ask them to take turns being the parent and the child.
  • The parent should give the child a simple instruction, such as “put your toys away”.
  • The child should then obey the instruction.
  • Swap roles and repeat the activity.

Conclusion:

  • Recap the different religions that the children have learned about.
  • Discuss the importance of obeying parents and why it is important to listen to them.
  • Ask the children to share one thing they have learned from the lesson.
