Focus: Deforestation

Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what deforestation is and what causes it.
  • Show them pictures of deforested areas and ask them to describe what they see.
  • Explain to them that deforestation is the clearing of forests for human activities such as agriculture, logging, and urbanization.
  • Ask them why deforestation is a problem and what are the possible implications for human activity.

Main Activity (30 minutes)

  • Divide the class into groups of four or five.
  • Provide each group with a map of Scotland and ask them to identify areas that have been deforested.
  • Ask them to research the reasons for deforestation in those areas and the possible implications for human activity.
  • Provide them with resources such as books, articles, and websites to help them with their research.
  • Ask them to present their findings to the class.

Discussion (15 minutes)

  • After each group has presented their findings, lead a class discussion on the sustainability of key natural resources and the possible implications for human activity.
  • Ask them to reflect on what they have learned and how they can contribute to the conservation of natural resources.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

  • Summarize the key points of the lesson and emphasize the importance of sustainable use of natural resources.
  • Ask them to write a short reflection on what they have learned and how they can apply it in their daily lives.

  • The students will be assessed based on their participation in the group activity, their presentation, and their reflection.
