Lesson Plan: Introduction to Japanese for Spanish Speakers

Objective: By the end of this lesson plan, the learner will be able to introduce themselves in Japanese, understand basic greetings, and express their likes and dislikes.

Level: Beginner

Duration: 1 hour per lesson (can be divided into multiple sessions)

Materials Needed: - Whiteboard or flip chart - Markers - Handouts with vocabulary and phrases - Audio or video clips of Japanese anime or music (optional)

Lesson 1: Introduction and Basic Greetings

  1. Warm-up Activity (5 minutes):
    • Show the learner a short clip of their favorite anime or play a Japanese song they enjoy.
    • Ask the learner to share why they are interested in learning Japanese and what they hope to achieve.
  2. Introduction to Japanese Writing System (10 minutes):
    • Introduce the three writing systems: Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji.
    • Explain that for beginners, we will focus on learning Hiragana, which is used for most words and grammatical structures.
  3. Basic Greetings (15 minutes):
    • Teach common greetings in Japanese, such as “Konnichiwa” (Hello), “Ohayou gozaimasu” (Good morning), “Konbanwa” (Good evening), and “Sayonara” (Goodbye).
    • Practice pronunciation and encourage the learner to repeat after you.
    • Write the greetings on the whiteboard and explain their meanings.
  4. Self-Introduction (20 minutes):
    • Teach the learner how to introduce themselves in Japanese.
    • Provide a handout with useful phrases for self-introduction, including name, age, nationality, and hobbies.
    • Model a self-introduction and have the learner practice introducing themselves.
    • Encourage the learner to use the vocabulary and phrases they have learned so far.
  5. Wrap-up Activity (10 minutes):
    • Ask the learner to create a short self-introduction in Japanese, incorporating the greetings and vocabulary learned.
    • Provide feedback and correct any mistakes.
    • Assign homework: Practice self-introduction in front of a mirror or record a video introducing themselves in Japanese.

Note: Throughout the lesson, incorporate examples from the learner’s favorite anime or music to make the content more engaging and relatable.

Additional Tips: - Encourage the learner to watch anime or listen to Japanese music with subtitles to familiarize themselves with the language. - Suggest using language learning apps or websites that offer Japanese lessons tailored for Spanish speakers. - Provide additional resources, such as online dictionaries or phrasebooks, to support independent learning outside of the lessons.
