Grade 4 Lesson Plan: Rounding Numbers to the Millions Place

  1. Rounding to the Millions Place (10 minutes)
    • Write a large number on the board, such as 8,765,432.
    • Explain that when rounding to the millions place, we look at the digit in the millions place and the digits to its right.
    • If the digit in the millions place is 5 or greater, we round up. If it is 4 or less, we round down.
    • Model rounding the number on the board, step by step, and explain each decision.
