Introduction: Board games are a great way to have fun and socialize with others. However, for students with autism, it can be challenging to make comments during the game. In this lesson, we will work on developing the skills needed to make comments during board games.

Lesson Outline: 1. Warm-up: Start by playing a simple board game with the students. Encourage them to make comments during the game, such as “I like this game” or “That was a good move.”

  1. Model: Show the students how to make comments during the game. Use simple language and demonstrate how to make comments that are relevant to the game.

  2. Practice: Play another board game with the students and encourage them to make comments during the game. Provide prompts if necessary, such as “What do you think of this game?” or “What was your favorite part of the game?”

  3. Questioning: Ask the students questions about the game, such as “What was your favorite part of the game?” or “What did you think of your opponent’s move?”

  4. Assessment: Observe the students during the game and take note of their ability to make comments. Provide feedback and praise for their efforts.

  5. Differentiation: Provide visual aids, such as picture cards, to help students who struggle with verbal communication. Use games that are appropriate for the students’ skill level.

  6. Plenary: Review the lesson and ask the students to reflect on their progress. Encourage them to continue practicing making comments during board games.
