Lesson Plan: Dos and Don’ts in the Classroom

Objective: Students will understand and practice appropriate behavior and etiquette in the classroom setting.

Materials: - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers - Index cards or small pieces of paper - Two boxes or containers

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes):
    • Begin the lesson by asking students to brainstorm and share some general rules they think are important to follow in the classroom.
    • Write their ideas on the whiteboard or chart paper.
  2. Dos and Don’ts Discussion (10 minutes):
    • Divide the whiteboard or chart paper into two columns: “Dos” and “Don’ts.”
    • Engage the students in a discussion about specific behaviors that fall under each category.
    • Write their ideas in the respective columns, encouraging students to explain why certain behaviors are considered appropriate or inappropriate.
  3. Group Activity: Sorting Ideas (15 minutes):
    • Distribute index cards or small pieces of paper to each student.
    • Instruct students to write down one dos and one don’t they believe are important in the classroom.
    • Collect the cards and shuffle them.
    • Divide the class into two groups and provide each group with a box or container labeled “Dos” and “Don’ts.”
    • One by one, have students from each group pick a card and read it aloud. The group must then decide if the behavior belongs in the “Dos” or “Don’ts” category and place it in the corresponding box.
    • Discuss any disagreements or uncertainties as a whole class and come to a consensus.
  4. Role-Play Activity (15 minutes):
    • Divide the class into pairs or small groups.
    • Assign each group a specific scenario related to classroom behavior (e.g., arriving late, using inappropriate language, not paying attention, etc.).
    • Instruct students to create a short role-play demonstrating both the appropriate and inappropriate behavior in the given scenario.
    • Allow time for groups to practice their role-plays.
    • Have each group perform their role-play in front of the class.
    • After each performance, facilitate a brief discussion about the dos and don’ts observed in the role-play.
  5. Reflection and Closure (5 minutes):
    • Ask students to reflect on what they have learned about appropriate behavior in the classroom.
    • Have a class discussion about the importance of following these dos and don’ts to create a positive and productive learning environment.
    • Summarize the key points discussed during the lesson.

Extension Activity: - Assign students to create a poster or infographic highlighting the dos and don’ts in the classroom. They can include illustrations and explanations for each behavior. Display the posters around the classroom as a visual reminder for students.

Assessment: - Observe students’ participation during the discussion and role-play activities. - Review the index cards collected during the group activity to assess students’ understanding of appropriate classroom behavior. - Evaluate the quality and accuracy of the posters or infographics created during the extension activity.
