Lesson Plan: Teaching Primary 3 Children How to Use Speech Marks

Objectives: - Understand what speech marks are - Learn when and how to use speech marks - Attend to a set of activities to practice understanding and usage of speech marks

Activities: - [10 mins] Introductory Activity: Teacher explains what speech marks are and when they should be used. - [15 mins] Activity 1: Teacher gives out a worksheet with group of sentences that need to be correctly marked with speech marks. Class works in groups to complete the task. - [15 mins] Activity 2: Teacher gives out another worksheet with sentences that need to be rewritten with correct use of speech marks. Class works in groups to complete the task. - [10 mins] Activity 3: Teacher gives out cards that have questions and answers written on them. The correct answers need to be marked off using speech marks. Each group gets a set of cards to be matched.

Assessment Strategies: - Worksheet 1: Accuracy and neatness of work - Worksheet 2: Accuracy and syntax of re-written sentences - Activity 3: Accuracy and neatness of work
