Lesson Title: Using Speech Marks

Lesson Objective: To enable Primary 3 children to understand when speech marks are used in a sentence and be able to write sentences using them

Activities: - Introduction to speech marks (10mins): Teacher introduces the students to speech marks and English rules when using them with examples. - Activity 1 (15mins): Students complete a worksheet to recognize when to use speech marks in a given sentence with teacher guidance and formative assessment. - Activity 2 (30mins): Students complete writing sentences that require the use of speech marks. Sentences to include names, quoted words as well as questions. The Teacher monitors and assesses student work throughout this activity. - Activity 3 (15mins): Paired activity for students to read and identify sentences correctly that require speech marks and then to correct them.

Assessment Strategies: - Teacher observation and assessment throughout activities - Students demonstrating understanding when given examples of sentences requiring Speech marks - Students completing reading and correcting of sentences with the correct use of speech marks

Timings: Introduction to Speech marks (10mins) Activity 1 (15mins) Activity 2 (30mins) Activity 3 (15mins)

Plenary: Students individually write a sentence using speech marks and read it aloud to the class. The teacher then reviews the class’ understanding as a whole and reinforces the main points of the lesson.
