Title: Exploring the Present Continuous Tense

Procedure:

Provide a few more examples of sentences in the present continuous tense.

  2. Forming the Present Continuous Tense (15 minutes): a. Write the formula for the present continuous tense on the board: Subject + am/is/are + verb + -ing. b. Explain that the verb “to be” (am/is/are) changes based on the subject. c. Give examples of different subjects and their corresponding forms of “to be” (e.g., I am, he is, they are). d. Use flashcards with action verbs to demonstrate how to add -ing to the base verb. e. Have students practice forming sentences in the present continuous tense with partners or in small groups.

  3. Using the Present Continuous Tense (20 minutes): a. Provide sentence strips with incomplete sentences in the present continuous tense. b. Ask students to complete the sentences by choosing the correct form of “to be” and adding the appropriate verb in -ing form. c. Have students share their completed sentences with the class. d. Engage students in a discussion about when and why we use the present continuous tense. e. Encourage students to think of real-life situations where they would use this tense.

  4. Application and Practice (15 minutes): a. Distribute worksheets or handouts with exercises related to the present continuous tense. b. Instruct students to complete the exercises independently or in pairs. c. Review the answers as a class, providing explanations and clarifications as needed. d. Encourage students to ask questions and seek help if they encounter difficulties.

  5. Conclusion and Wrap-up (5 minutes): a. Recap the main points of the lesson, emphasizing the structure and usage of the present continuous tense. b. Ask students to share one sentence each using the present continuous tense. c. Provide positive feedback and reinforce their understanding of the topic. d. Assign a small homework task to practice using the present continuous tense.
