Lesson Plan: Technologies - Food and Textile Technology

Topic: Exploring Healthy Food and Textiles

Level: Early Level (Scottish Curriculum)

Lesson Duration: 60 minutes

Resources: - Pictures or real samples of different textiles (cotton, silk, wool, etc.) - Food pyramid poster or visual aid - Various healthy food items (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc.) - Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, scissors, glue, etc.) - Chart paper or whiteboard and markers

Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Greet the students and introduce the topic of the lesson: exploring healthy food and textiles. 2. Show pictures or real samples of different textiles and ask the students if they know what they are. 3. Discuss the importance of textiles in our daily lives, such as clothing, blankets, and bags. 4. Explain that today, we will learn about different textiles and also explore healthy food choices.

Body: 1. Textiles Exploration (15 minutes): a. Show the different textiles again and ask the students to touch and feel them. b. Discuss the characteristics of each textile (soft, rough, smooth, etc.) and ask the students to describe how they feel. c. Encourage the students to share any experiences they have had with different textiles. d. Provide examples of how textiles are used in everyday life (clothes, curtains, towels, etc.). e. Engage the students in a discussion about their favorite textile and why they like it.

  1. Healthy Food Discussion (15 minutes): a. Display the food pyramid poster or visual aid. b. Explain that the food pyramid shows us how to make healthy food choices. c. Discuss the different food groups (fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, dairy) and their importance in a balanced diet. d. Show various healthy food items and ask the students to identify which food group they belong to. e. Encourage the students to share their favorite healthy foods and why they like them.

  2. Textile Art Activity (20 minutes): a. Distribute art supplies and ask the students to draw their favorite healthy food item on a piece of paper. b. After they finish drawing, provide them with different textile scraps (cotton, silk, wool, etc.). c. Instruct the students to cut out their food drawing and glue it onto a larger piece of paper. d. Encourage the students to use the textile scraps to add texture and details to their food drawing. e. Allow time for the students to share their artwork with the class and explain their choices.

Conclusion (5 minutes): 1. Recap the main points discussed during the lesson, including the different textiles and healthy food choices. 2. Ask the students if they enjoyed experimenting with textiles and if they learned something new about healthy food. 3. Emphasize the importance of making healthy food choices and appreciating the different textiles we use every day. 4. Thank the students for their participation and conclude the lesson.
