Lesson Plan: What is the Purpose of a CPU?

Grade Level: Year 10 (KS4) Duration: 55 minutes

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes) a. Greet the students and briefly recap their previous knowledge about CPUs. b. Explain the learning objectives for the lesson.

  2. Vocabulary Review (10 minutes) a. Distribute handouts with key terms related to the topic. b. Instruct students to work in pairs or small groups to define each term. c. After 5 minutes, gather the definitions from different groups and discuss them as a class. d. Clarify any misconceptions and provide correct definitions.

  3. Direct Instruction (10 minutes) a. Use the whiteboard or blackboard to explain the purpose of a CPU. b. Provide a clear definition of a CPU and its role in a computer system. c. Discuss the importance of the CPU in executing instructions and performing calculations.

  4. Checking for Understanding (10 minutes) a. Ask a series of questions related to the purpose of a CPU. b. Encourage students to raise their hands and provide answers. c.
