Objective: Students will be able to discuss the North African Campaign by analyzing primary sources and discussing the events of the campaign.

Materials Needed: -Copies of Lesson Plan -Primary Sources (photos, maps, video clips, etc) -Whiteboard and Markers

Time Needed: 1 hour

Lesson Plan

I. Introduction (5 minutes) A. Introduction to lesson: Explain the purpose of the lesson and why the North African Campaign is important (include a timeline of events if possible). B. Set up discussion: Ask the students what they already know about the North African Campaign.

II. Group Activity (30 minutes) A. Divide the class into 4 teams and provide each team a primary source (photo, map, video clip, etc) related to the North African Campaign. B. Ask each team to discuss their primary source and answer the following questions: -What events can you see in the source? -How does this source inform us about the North African Campaign? -What further questions do you have about the events in this source? C. After 5 minutes, have each team present their source to the class and discuss their answers with the class. D. Allow 15 minutes of class discussion after all teams have presented.

III. Closure (15 minutes) A. Ask students to summarize what they have learned about the North African Campaign. B. Close the lesson with a review of the primary sources and discuss the timeline of events. C. Remind students of the purpose of the lesson and why the North African Campaign is important.

IV. Assessment A. Assessment of the activity could include a written response from the students to the following question:

How did the North African Campaign shape World War II?

B. Assessment of the discussion could also be done through a quiz or test on the information discussed.
