Lesson Plan: Marvelous Me
Theme: Marvelous Me - Exploring and Celebrating Our Unique Qualities
Grade Level: 1st Grade
Duration: 5 days (Monday to Friday)
Objective: Students will explore and celebrate their unique qualities through hands-on activities, promoting self-awareness, self-expression, and appreciation for diversity.
Grouping: Three groups (Group A, Group B, Group C) based on students’ abilities and needs.
Materials Needed: Art supplies (paper, crayons, markers, glue, scissors), mirrors, construction paper, magazines, photographs, books about diversity and self-acceptance.
Day 1: Discovering Our Unique Qualities
Group A: - Activity: “All About Me” Collage - Provide each student with a piece of construction paper, magazines, scissors, and glue. - Instruct students to cut out pictures or words that represent their interests, hobbies, and qualities. - Encourage them to create a collage that reflects their unique qualities. - Assist students as needed.
Group B: - Activity: “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall” - Provide each student with a small mirror. - Instruct students to look at themselves in the mirror and describe what they see. - Encourage them to share their observations with their peers. - Discuss the importance of self-acceptance and appreciating one’s unique qualities.
Group C: - Activity: “My Special Talents” - Provide each student with a piece of paper and art supplies. - Instruct students to draw or write about their special talents or skills. - Encourage them to share their talents with their peers. - Discuss the importance of recognizing and celebrating each other’s unique abilities.
Day 2: Embracing Our Differences
Group A: - Activity: “Diversity Book” - Provide each student with a blank book or stapled papers. - Instruct students to create a book that celebrates diversity. - Encourage them to draw or write about different cultures, languages, and physical appearances. - Assist students in sharing their books with their peers.
Group B: - Activity: “My Family Tree” - Provide each student with a large piece of paper and art supplies. - Instruct students to draw their family tree, including different family members and their unique qualities. - Encourage them to share their family trees with their peers. - Discuss the importance of valuing and respecting different family structures and backgrounds.
Group C: - Activity: “Celebrating Our Similarities and Differences” - Provide each student with a worksheet that includes various statements about themselves. - Instruct students to circle the statements that apply to them. - Encourage them to share their similarities and differences with their peers. - Discuss the importance of accepting and appreciating each other’s unique qualities.
Day 3: Expressing Ourselves Creatively
Group A: - Activity: “Self-Portrait” - Provide each student with a mirror, paper, and art supplies. - Instruct students to look at themselves in the mirror and draw a self-portrait. - Encourage them to include their unique qualities in their artwork. - Assist students in sharing their self-portraits with their peers.
Group B: - Activity: “My Favorite Things” - Provide each student with a piece of paper and art supplies. - Instruct students to draw or write about their favorite things. - Encourage them to express their unique interests and preferences. - Assist students in sharing their favorite things with their peers.
Group C: - Activity: “Expressing Emotions Through Art” - Provide each student with a piece of paper and art supplies. - Instruct students to create artwork that represents different emotions. - Encourage them to discuss their artwork and the emotions they chose to portray. - Discuss the importance of expressing and understanding emotions.
Day 4: Celebrating Our Achievements
Group A: - Activity: “Marvelous Me Certificate” - Provide each student with a certificate template or blank paper. - Instruct students to write or draw about their achievements and unique qualities. - Assist students in sharing their certificates with their peers. - Celebrate their accomplishments as a group.
Group B: - Activity: “My Proud Moments” - Provide each student with a piece of paper and art supplies. - Instruct students to draw or write about their proud moments or achievements. - Encourage them to share their proud moments with their peers. - Celebrate their accomplishments as a group.
Group C: - Activity: “Sharing Our Success Stories” - Provide each student with a piece of paper and art supplies. - Instruct students to draw or write about a time they felt successful or proud. - Encourage them to share their success stories with their peers. - Celebrate their accomplishments as a group.
Day 5: Reflection and Celebration
Group A, B, and C: - Activity: “Marvelous Me Showcase” - Provide each group with a designated area to display their artwork, collages, books, and certificates. - Instruct students to take turns exploring and appreciating each other’s creations. - Encourage them to reflect on what they have learned about themselves and their peers. - Celebrate their unique qualities and achievements as a whole class.
Note: Throughout the week, the teacher should provide support and guidance to each group based on their differentiated tasks. The activities can be adjusted or modified to suit the specific needs and abilities of the students in each group.
