Lesson Plan: Email Etiquette for 7th Grade Life Science Students
Learning Intention: To understand and apply proper email etiquette when communicating with teachers, peers, and other professionals.
Success Criteria: 1. Students will be able to identify and explain the importance of email etiquette. 2. Students will demonstrate the ability to compose a well-structured and polite email. 3. Students will practice effective email communication through guided and independent activities.
Duration: 1 hour
Materials: - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers - Handouts with email etiquette guidelines - Computers or devices with internet access
Procedure:

Introduction (5 minutes) a. Greet the students and explain the purpose of the lesson. b. Discuss the importance of email etiquette in today’s digital world. c. Share examples of both good and poor email communication.

Understanding Email Etiquette (10 minutes) a. Display the email etiquette guidelines on the whiteboard or chart paper. b. Discuss each guideline, explaining its significance and providing examples. c. Encourage students to ask questions and share their own experiences.

Guided Practice (15 minutes) a. Divide the class into pairs or small groups. b. Distribute a scenario handout to each group, describing a situation where an email needs to be composed. c. Instruct students to work together to compose an appropriate email response, following the email etiquette guidelines. d. Monitor and provide guidance as needed.
- Group Discussion (10 minutes)
a. Have each group share their scenario and the email response they composed.
b. Facilitate a class discussion by asking questions such as:
- Did the group follow the email etiquette guidelines?
- What could be improved in their email response?
- How would you feel if you received that email? c. Provide constructive feedback and reinforce the importance of clarity, politeness, and professionalism in email communication.
