Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and explain the major anatomical structures and organs of the human body.
Materials Needed: whiteboard, markers, anatomical diagrams of the body,
Procedures:
-
Introduction: Introduce the lesson objective of learning about the anatomy of the human body. Explain to students why studying anatomy is an important part of nursing and why it is important for them to understand the different structures and organs within our bodies. (5 minutes)
-
Body Orientation: Review the basic body orientation terms with students and provide diagrams to illustrate the terms. Explain how the body is divided into the axial and appendicular regions and how different organs, muscles and bones within the body serve different functions. (15 minutes)
-
Anatomical Structures of the Head and Neck: Have students break into smaller groups and provide diagrams to review the anatomical structures of the head and neck. Ask the groups to label each structure and explain its function within the body. (20 minutes)
-
Anatomical Structures of the Torso: Have students break into the same groups and provide diagrams to review the anatomical structures of the torso, such as organs and muscles. Ask the groups to label each structure and explain its function within the body. (20 minutes)
-
Anatomical Structures of the Appendicular Region: Have students break into the same groups and provide diagrams to review the anatomical structures of the appendicular region, such as bones, joints and muscles. Ask the groups to label each structure and explain its function within the body. (20 minutes)
-
Wrap-up: Have each group review the anatomical structures and functions reviewed in the lesson. Summarize the lesson and emphasize the importance of understanding the human anatomy and its different structures and organs for nursing. (5 minutes)
Assessment: Give students a quiz on the anatomical structures and organs reviewed in the lesson.
