Lesson Plan: Expressing Wishes, Regret and Criticism

Level: Intermediate

Objectives: - To learn and practice vocabulary related to expressing wishes, regret and criticism - To understand the grammar structures used to express wishes, regret and criticism - To practice expressing wishes, regret and criticism in speaking and writing activities

Materials: - Handout with vocabulary related to expressing wishes, regret and criticism - Presentation slides with grammar structures and examples - Speaking and writing activities

Procedure:

  1. Warm-up (5 minutes) - Ask students to share a wish they have for the future. - Elicit some examples and write them on the board. - Ask students to share a regret they have from the past. - Elicit some examples and write them on the board.

  2. Vocabulary (10 minutes) - Hand out the vocabulary handout and ask students to match the words with their definitions. - Review the answers as a class and clarify any questions.

  3. Grammar (15 minutes) - Present the grammar structures for expressing wishes, regret and criticism using the presentation slides. - Provide examples and ask students to identify the structure used. - Clarify any questions and provide additional examples if necessary.

  4. Speaking activity (20 minutes) - Divide students into pairs or small groups. - Ask them to discuss a situation where they have a wish, regret or criticism. - Encourage them to use the vocabulary and grammar structures learned in the lesson. - Monitor and provide feedback as necessary.

  5. Writing activity (20 minutes) - Ask students to write a short paragraph expressing a wish, regret or criticism. - Encourage them to use the vocabulary and grammar structures learned in the lesson. - Collect the paragraphs and provide feedback as necessary.

  6. Wrap-up (5 minutes) - Ask students to share one thing they learned from the lesson. - Review the vocabulary and grammar structures learned in the lesson. - Provide any additional feedback or clarification as necessary.

Assessment: - Students’ participation in the speaking activity - Students’ writing paragraphs expressing a wish, regret or criticism - Students’ understanding and use of the vocabulary and grammar structures learned in the lesson.
