Lesson Plan: Expressing Wishes, Regret and Criticism using the verb wish or if only
Level: Intermediate
Objective: Students will be able to express wishes, regret and criticism using the verb wish or if only.
Materials: Whiteboard, markers, handouts, and audiovisual aids.
Warm-up (5 minutes): - Ask students to think of a situation where they wished something had happened differently. - Have them share their thoughts with a partner or in a small group.
Presentation (15 minutes): - Introduce the topic of expressing wishes, regret and criticism using the verb wish or if only. - Write the following examples on the board: - I wish I had studied harder for the exam. - If only I had known about the traffic, I would have left earlier. - I wish you wouldn’t interrupt me when I’m speaking. - Explain the meaning and usage of each sentence. - Play an audio or video clip that includes examples of expressing wishes, regret and criticism.
Practice (20 minutes): - Distribute handouts with exercises on expressing wishes, regret and criticism using the verb wish or if only. - Have students work individually or in pairs to complete the exercises. - Monitor their progress and provide assistance as needed.
