Objective: Students will learn how to effectively create a non-fiction writing piece using the app Book Creator.

Materials Needed: iPads, iPhones, and laptops, Book Creator app (downloadable)

Time: 2 class periods

Preparation/Set-up: Download the Book Creator app to all computers, iPads, and/or iPhones

Lesson Overview:

Day 1

-Introduce the concept of non-fiction writing and explain the importance of using Book Creator to create non-fiction writing pieces (10 min)

-Show students examples of non-fiction writing pieces on different devices created using Book Creator (10 min)

-Explain how to set up and use Book Creator (30-40 min)

-Discuss and practice formatting/layout for non-fiction pieces (20-30 min)

Day 2

-Assign each student a specific non-fiction writing topic (10 min)

-Allow students to use Book Creator to start their non-fiction writing pieces (30 min)

-Check in on progress and answer any questions that come up (10 min)

-Allow time to finish writing pieces and format/layout (30-40 min)

-Wrap-up and discuss individual and group progress (10 min)

Closure/Assessment: Have students review each other’s writing pieces and grading based on content, formatting and layout of their non-fiction writing.
